How Worksop came together part 2

The second part to the mental health meeting held between In Sam’s name and Worksop Town FC, the second part will get the groups reaction from founder Richard McHugh on how he thought the night went.
This has to be one of the biggest nights for the group since it’s formation in December 2021, this is because the amount attention between people within the Football club and the town itself has only made the name of our group talked about more, as well as the reach Worksop Town has outside of Worksop.
We had some regular faces from our meetings in attendance which was great to see and a few new faces. They didn’t know what to expect and feel much better after making that first move to come down to the meeting.
It was inspirational for a lot of people hearing Liam’s story and many people took a lot from it. when the meeting went around the room, Liam listened to each individuals story and pitched in with advice, using examples that he could use from his life to connect to the story that was being addressed.
The group and it’s members took a lot from this meeting and we are hoping to continue our great connection with the club.
Co-founder Richard McHugh reflected after meeting on his view on how the night went: “It has been brilliant. Listening to his story, he’s an inspiration and he has motivated a lot of people. To be honest, getting him down here has brought a few new faces through the door which is what we are wanting in breaking the stigma and if it takes Liam to come and tell his story – as tragic as it has been at times – it has been a great inspiration.
“The impact we hope it has is that it will break the stigma and get more men talking to one another after seeing that Liam is just human and not just a god-like figure like he has been for Worksop this year and if he can tell his story then other men can whether that be with friends and family or by coming to speak to us which we might be strangers at first, but we’ll be friends when you leave.
“[For anyone reading] I would say talk; communication is key. Just open up if you can; it is not a taboo subject we can talk to each other.”
